Bangalore Bites: Ladyfish & Grunter Action in Urban Waters

I headed out with Pravieen for an early morning fishing adventure in Bangalore, Karnataka this June. We kicked off our day at 7:15 am under partly cloudy skies, with a chance of rain in the forecast. Despite the urban setting, Bangalore offers some surprisingly good fishing opportunities in its local waters. The weather conditions were actually quite favorable for our target species, creating an ideal setup for our day on the water. Bangalore's urban lakes like Ulsoor and Hebbal offer good carp fishing, with common and grass carp abundant. Target depths of 6-10 feet near submerged vegetation using corn or dough baits. The Cauvery River, about 100 km from the city, provides excellent mahseer fishing opportunities. Use heavy tackle and live bait like small fish or large crickets in deep pools below rapids for the best results.

We employed a variety of techniques throughout the day, including bait casting, bottom fishing, and float fishing. These methods proved effective for the conditions we encountered and the species we were targeting. Our efforts paid off as we managed to land some ladyfish and sooty grunter. These species are well-suited to the diverse aquatic environments found in and around Bangalore, from urban lakes to nearby rivers. While we didn't have specific length measurements for our catches, each fish provided an exciting fight and a satisfying addition to our day's tally.
